How it works

  1. 1Enter the tail number

Free: the FAA registry record, any NTSB accidents for that serial number, and recent liens and sales filed with the FAA.

  2. 2Upload everything

Logbooks, 337s, the FAA file (CARES), weight and balance, work orders, oil reports, engine monitor files, borescope photos. PDFs, phone photos, zips or whole folders.

  3. 3Every page is read

Each entry is transcribed with its date, hours, shop and work, and tied to the page it came from. Duplicates and blank pages are set aside.

  4. 4The report

A summary written the way an inspector writes to a buyer, then the concerns, the good signs, engine health, the airplane’s life, its owners and every entry, each linked to its page.

What the report covers

Damage history

Repairs and 337s in the logs, and NTSB records for the serial and every tail number it carried.

Ownership

The chain of owners from the FAA file, tail number changes, and liens without a release.

Engines and propellers

Hours and years since overhaul, and time reset to zero by work that was not an overhaul.

Annuals

Each annual, who signed it, and whether it says airworthy or lists discrepancies.

ADs

What the records show for each AD, and where shops’ records disagree.

Gaps

Years with no entries, and books that are missing from the set.

Engine data

Engine monitor flights charted, oil analysis trends, borescope photos graded by cylinder.

Why choose us?

Waypoint Aviation in Riverside was the first shop the American Bonanza Society named a Center of Excellence. Paul McCracken was its director of maintenance. Paul has since passed, and the standard he held the shop to is the one we still work to.

That was sixteen years ago. Since then it has been prebuy inspections and training, now as Bay Area Beech, and every airplane has been a Bonanza or a Baron. We kept the reports. What this tool looks for in a set of logs comes from them: the ADs these airplanes come due for, the repairs that tend to come back, the entries that tell you an owner was paying attention, and the ones that tell you nobody was.

It will read any airplane’s logbooks. It was built on Beechcraft, and that is where it knows the most.

Don’t fly out blind.

A trip to see a bad airplane costs more than the report. If we can’t read the logbooks, you get a full refund.

Add every logbook you have for

Drop whole folders, zips, PDFs, Word files or phone photos. More pages means a better report.

For best results: every logbook (airframe, each engine, each propeller, including closed and older books), the AD compliance report from the last annual, the last annual's work order, and any other supporting documents: Form 337s, weight and balance, 8130-3 tags, oil analyses, engine monitor files. We look up the FAA registry and NTSB records ourselves.

Owners and liens come only from the FAA’s own file for the airplane. Once you’re signed in, it takes about a minute.

  1. On cares.faa.gov, click Sign In / Register, then Sign in with LOGIN.GOV. No Login.gov account yet? Create one there; it asks for an email, a password and a second sign-in step such as a text code.
  2. If CARES shows its terms of service, accept them. On your dashboard, click Get Started.
  3. Click Aircraft Services, then Search/Request Aircraft Records.
  4. Type in the box after “N-”, click the magnifying glass, then click the aircraft in the results.
  5. Scroll down to Documents. On the Registration History tab, click Download All Registration History. Then open the Airworthiness tab and click Download All Airworthiness.
  6. Drop both PDFs here. We check them on the spot.

Most reports take approximately 10 minutes to generate from start to finish. You can keep this page open, or come back to this link later.

This report is generated by software from the pages provided. It reads and organizes the records; it does not determine airworthiness and does not replace a prebuy inspection.
